Last Sunday set as the Farewell Event at Gadsby's Tavern Museum for the family

The Gadsby's Tavern Museum, a significant centre of social and political life in Alexandria and Washington during the late 18th and early 19th centuries, is inviting families to a special event on Sunday, Aug. 31, from 2 to 5 p.m. Located at 134 N. Royal Street in Alexandria, the museum is hosting a Family Day with Young Historians.

This interactive event offers a unique learning experience for all ages. Activities include chocolate making and period clothing demonstrations, led by the museum's Junior Docents, students in grades four through seven. These young historians have been praised for their enthusiasm and unique perspective in previous years.

The Junior Docents will lead museum tours and share stories of early Alexandria. According to the museum, this event adds an 'exciting treat' and a 'fun element' to the museum tour.

Regular museum admission is free for residents of Alexandria. For more information about the museum, contact 703-746-4242 or visit alexandriava.gov/Gadsbytavern. Admission for these activities is included with regular museum admission, and tickets can be reserved at https://shop.alexandriava.gov/Events.aspx.

Gadsby's Tavern was a popular spot for many notable figures, including George Washington. The accommodations at the tavern were highly regarded by travelers, and tavern keepers John Wise and John Gadsby hosted various events such as balls, performances, and meetings. The last tavern keeper before its conversion into a museum was John Wise.

The Gadsby's Tavern Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into Alexandria's connection to the world and the stories of diverse people who lived there. Don't miss this opportunity to step back in time and learn from the Young Historians. Tickets for the event can be reserved at https://shop.alexandriava.gov/Events.aspx.
