Latest Google Pixel Update in May 2025 Brings Bug Fixes, Essential Security Patch

In a recent development, Google has rolled out the May 2025 security update for its Pixel lineup, including the Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 6a, 8, 8 Pro, and 8a. This update includes a critical patch for a zero-day vulnerability, CVE-2025-27363, and addresses several bugs on Pixel 6 devices.

The update comes with a bootloader update that increments the anti-rollback version for the bootloader, preventing the device from rolling back to previous vulnerable versions. This measure is designed to enhance the security of your device.

The Android Security Bulletin outlines the security issues addressed with this month's Pixel update. However, it does not mention any new zero-day security vulnerabilities, suggesting that the patch addresses only the known vulnerability.

The update addresses three bugs in Pixel 6 devices: degraded microphone recording quality in certain apps, Bluetooth pairing issues with certain smartwatches under specific conditions, and secondary language display issues in quick settings under certain conditions. Unfortunately, the update does not include any bug fixes for Pixel 8 devices.

The rollout of the May 2025 update will continue over the next week, depending on the carrier and device model. Users are advised to check for updates by opening the Settings app, navigating to System > Software update > System update, and pressing Check for update.

It is important to note that after flashing the May 2025 update on Pixel 6 and newer devices, running older Android 15 builds will no longer be possible. This move is likely in response to both the April and May patches including fixes for zero-day exploits.

The bulletin also notes that there are indications that CVE-2025-27363 may be under limited, targeted exploitation. However, no new information about potential exploitation of the vulnerability has been provided.

Google, as the manufacturer, develops and provides updates for its Pixel line using its own custom-designed Tensor processors and software, as seen with the Pixel 10 and Tensor G5 chip released in 2025.

Users are advised to update their devices as soon as the May 2025 patch is available to avoid falling victim to this security exploit. This update does not seem to contain any new advertisements or unnecessary information.
