India Launches Digital Platform to Boost Traditional Medicine Sector

The Government of India has launched the Ayush Nivesh Saarthi Portal, a digital platform aimed at attracting investments in the traditional medicine sector, including Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy (Ayush system). The portal, developed in collaboration with Invest India, serves as an investor-centric gateway, simplifying regulatory and informational processes for potential investors.

The Ayush Nivesh Saarthi Portal offers a single-window, user-friendly interface for investors to explore and invest in opportunities within the Ayush sector. By enhancing the visibility and accessibility of traditional medicine enterprises, the portal encourages both domestic and international investments, thereby supporting the growth of the Ayush ecosystem.

This digital platform is expected to drive economic development by institutional support for innovation, manufacturing, and commercialization in traditional medicine. The Ayush sector, an important part of India's cultural heritage, contributes significantly to health and wellness tourism and exports. By fostering entrepreneurship and creating jobs, the portal is set to position India as a global hub for wellness and traditional medicine industries.

In addition to the Ayush Nivesh Saarthi Portal, the Government of India has launched several initiatives to address environmental concerns and promote sustainable development. The National Plastic Waste Reporting Portal, for instance, has replaced manual, multi-step reporting processes with a digitized online system. This portal integrates multiple authorities, ensuring a coordinated response and enforcement.

Two key publications, "Government Initiatives on Ending Plastic Pollution" and "Compendium on Eco-alternatives to Single Use Plastics", were also released, highlighting the government's commitment to tackling plastic pollution and promoting eco-friendly alternatives. The Union Minister for Environment has emphasized the need for recycling technologies, collective state action to address pollution in River Yamuna, and the importance of banning plastic carry bags below 120 microns and avoiding single-use plastics.

In the environmental sector, the Environment Sustainability Sector shows the highest expenditure share, with Rs. 2433.24 crore in 2021-22. The Conservation of Natural Resource Sector shows an upward trend, while the Agro-Forestry Sector exhibits the lowest expenditure among the three sectors. Inland fish production has increased significantly, from 61.36 lakh tonnes in 2013-14 to 139.07 lakh tonnes in 2023-24, indicating growth in inland aquaculture and freshwater fisheries.

The Union Minister for Environment has also emphasized the role of electric buses in tackling Delhi's vehicular pollution and the importance of maintaining environmental balance, highlighting India's early proactive steps on plastic pollution. The National Plastic Pollution Reduction Campaign includes targeted initiatives in Tiger Reserves, urban/rural areas, and government offices, and includes a Hackathon for eco-alternatives to single-use plastics.
