Man Sustains Severe Injuries After Fleeing Police in Münster

In an unusual incident that unfolded on the night of May 13th, a 37-year-old man sustained severe injuries after falling into the Aa river while fleeing a police patrol on a bicycle in Münster, Germany.

The incident began in Bahnhofstraße, where the man is suspected of stealing an unlocked light blue bicycle. He then allegedly rode towards Münster-Nord, where he is suspected of committing multiple thefts in cellar rooms.

During these crimes, the man reportedly stole tools, shoes, and drinks, which he was carrying at the time of the accident.

As the police attempted to apprehend him, the man fled without cause and took a narrow path along the Aa. The police could no longer follow the man, and shortly afterwards, an emergency call was received about a man shouting for help from the Aa river.

The injured man was found at the edge of the riverbed by additional police officers after falling into the river while fleeing. The fire brigade rescued the injured man, and paramedics took him to a hospital, where a doctor took a blood sample due to the man being under the influence of alcohol.

The stolen items, including the light blue bicycle, have been secured by the police. The owner of the stolen bicycle, a 45-year-old woman, had parked her light blue Cube brand bicycle on August 26, 2025, in Woltersdorfer Straße in Gerwisch.

Witnesses and those affected by the thefts are asked to call 0251 275-0. The police Münster Press Office can be contacted for media inquiries at muenster.polizei.nrw/ or via email at [email protected]. The telephone number for media representatives is 0251 275-1010.

The police in Münster are conducting a comprehensive criminal procedure related to the incident and are searching for the owners of the stolen items and the stolen bicycle.
