Law enforcement monitors firearm and marijuana prohibition at Offenbach's Christmas market.
In the heart of the festive season, the city of Offenbach is gearing up for a safe and secure Christmas market experience. The city and state police, in collaboration with the Polizeipräsidium Südosthessen (Southeast Hesse Police Headquarters), have intensified their cooperation since 2023, with joint patrols covering six hours of service daily.
The enhanced security measures are in response to a focus on the protection of health, especially of children. The Weapons Act, which has been in effect since October 31, 2024, prohibits the carrying of knives, weapons, or other dangerous objects at public events, including the Offenbach Christmas market. This regulation will be implemented by a temporary general decree of the city.
Ordnungsdezernent Paul-Gerhard Weiß stated that the city and state police will show increased presence to monitor the weapon ban to ensure the safety of visitors. The ban applies to all Christmas markets in the city and its districts, including Bieber, Bürgel, and Rumpenheim.
Nancy Faeser, the Federal Minister of the Interior, has called on the states to consistently enforce the weapon ban. In addition, the cannabis consumption ban on the Offenbach Christmas markets will be extended, applying until the markets close. The cannabis consumption ban has not been associated with any problems so far.

Random checks by security authorities are now legally possible, making enforcement easier for the authorities. Ordnungsdezernent Weiß explained that the extension of the ban is for preventive reasons. The regulation does not apply to advertisements.
The police authority has the right to intervene in case of violations of the cannabis consumption ban. The city and state police have the right to intervene in case of violations of the weapons ban as well. This cooperation will be further increased during the Christmas season.
As the city of Offenbach prepares for the festive season, visitors can look forward to a safe and enjoyable Christmas market experience.
