Law enforcement officers conducting a search in the Dithmarschen district for a suspected human trafficker

On August 20, 2025, the Federal Police, along with approximately 60 officers, including special forces of the Federal Reserve Police, conducted searches in Heide and Lohe-Rickelshof, Landkreis Dithmarschen. The investigation, led by the Federal Police Inspectorate Ludwigsdorf, is focused on the suspicion of commercial and gang-related human smuggling.

The searches were carried out at the request of the Public Prosecutor's Office in Dresden, branch office Pirna. The perpetrator, a 21-year-old Yemeni national, was identified through the evaluation of secured DNA traces and witness statements. The individual is suspected of smuggling a total of 43 third-country nationals into Slovakia using a Polish rental truck.

During the searches, several mobile phones and other evidence were secured. The suspect was found and questioned, but the name is not publicly available. No measures restricting freedom were taken in the investigation.

After the last trip, the suspect caused a traffic accident in Dresden and left the scene. The smuggling occurred in three cases in June 2023. The investigation is being conducted by the Federal Police Inspectorate Ludwigsdorf on behalf of the Public Prosecutor's Office in Dresden.
