Law enforcement officers in Gelsenkirchen focused their attention on a young individual.
In the heart of Gelsenkirchen, on Thursday, August 28, 2025, a significant operation was carried out by the Police and Ordnance Service. This operation was part of the work of the Special Commission (Soko) "Youth", established by Police President Tim Frommeyer in April 2024.
The aim of the Soko "Youth" is to increase security in Gelsenkirchen, particularly by targeting youth crime. The operation, which took place between 3:00 PM and 10:00 PM, targeted youth crime and saw the control of a total of 141 individuals.
The operation was led by Kriminaldirektor Robert Herrmann, who expressed satisfaction with the course of the operation. During the operation, three individuals were processed for identification, and one arrest warrant was executed. Seventeen items were secured, including electronic cigarettes and incapacitants.
Kriminaloberrat Benjamin Thom, the current head of the Special Commission (Soko) "Youth" in Gelsenkirchen, took over this leadership role from Kriminaloberrat Gerrit Böckmann in 2025. Thom announced his intention to continue the previous work of the Soko and show delinquent youth ways out of crime.
The local Ordnance Service of the city of Gelsenkirchen will continue to support the police in the work of the Soko "Youth". The Soko pursues both preventive and repressive approaches to reduce increasing youth crime rates and strengthen the security feeling of the population.
Herrmann stated that the multitude of measures taken underscores the necessity of sustained control pressure. Thom emphasised that the Soko "Youth" will continue to take place regularly in the future, as part of the ongoing commitment to combat youth crime in Gelsenkirchen.
