Law enforcement officials in Poland issue warning to truck drivers to decrease speeds when pursuing escapees

In a remarkable display of public support and bravery, two truck drivers from Auetal and Arnstadt have been praised by Inspector Thomas Bodendiek for their actions during a high-speed chase on the A2 towards Hannover on Monday, 1st September, 2025.

The incident, which occurred near Braunschweig at approximately 9:20 AM, involved a 53-year-old individual who was evading traffic control. The chase came to a successful conclusion thanks to the swift actions of the two truck drivers, who managed to sandwich the recklessly driving car without endangering others.

Inspector Bodendiek has labelled the drivers as everyday heroes, commending their courage and quick thinking. He believes that they did everything right and have not made them into criminals. The Braunschweig Police are fortunate to have such support from the public.

However, there have been voices accusing the drivers of coercion or endangering traffic. In response, Inspector Bodendiek clarified that everyone is authorized by the Criminal Procedure Code to arrest a person who has become involved in a criminal offense, which is what happened in this case. Care was taken not to endanger anyone else during the arrest.

The names of the 38-year-old truck driver from Auetal, involved in the pursuit of the 53-year-old man, and the 27-year-old driver from Arnstadt, have not been disclosed in the available information.

For further inquiries, members of the press are invited to contact the Braunschweig Police Press Office. The Braunschweig Police would like to take this opportunity to thank the public for their ongoing support and vigilance.
