Law Enforcement Seeks to Prohibit the Use of License Plates AC-AB
In the heart of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, the city region of Aachen saw a significant change in its roadscape at the beginning of June. A total of 358,821 Aachen license plates were on the streets, a number that has been steadily growing.
Among the new additions were 1,699 license plates starting with the letter combination AC. This was accompanied by 3,651 license plates bearing the combination AC-DC, a number that might remind some of the famous music band. However, there is no confirmation that the use of these combinations has led to an "export hit" or "license plate tourism" related to Aachen plates.
Auto motor und sport, a renowned German automotive magazine, has responded that there is no evidence to support such claims. The term "license plate tourism" was not mentioned in their response, further indicating no such activity.
It is worth noting that since 2015, license plates from other regions can be used at a new place of residence in North Rhine-Westphalia. This could potentially affect the total number of Aachen license plates on the streets.
Interestingly, the German cities associated with a high number of vehicles bearing the license plate combinations AC and AB are Aachen and Aschaffenburg respectively. However, Aachen does not issue license plates starting with AC-AB.
These facts provide a snapshot of the Aachen license plate scene, offering a glimpse into the city's growing road network and its unique license plate combinations. While the AC-DC combination might remind some of the famous music band, the city of Aachen remains focused on its urban development, rather than any potential tourism related to its license plates.
