In a series of developments, James Lawrence, a prominent figure, has initiated legal proceedings against Nikita Hand following a High Court civil jury's ruling last year that he did not assault her. The case stems from an allegation made by Nikita Hand in 2018, where she claimed an assault by James Lawrence in the Beacon Hotel, Dublin on December 9th.

However, the jury's decision did not go in James Lawrence's favour. Conor McGregor, another individual involved in the case, was found to have assaulted Nikita Hand, for which he was ordered to pay almost €250,000 in damages. McGregor's appeal of this finding was subsequently thrown out by the Court of Appeal in July.

Prior to McGregor's failed appeal, new evidence he had sought to introduce was withdrawn, and it is now under investigation by gardai for possible perjury.

In a twist of events, James Lawrence's costs were not awarded by the High Court and the Court of Appeal, as they deemed his case to be "frivolous" and "unnecessary". Mulholland Law, representing James Lawrence, has since described Nikita Hand's actions as an "abuse of process" and is seeking damages on behalf of their client.

In response, Nikita Hand's legal team has argued that if James Lawrence were to pass on costs to Conor McGregor, she would be paying costs to the man who gave inaccurate evidence against her and ultimately to the man who raped her. This, they claim, would be highly improper and vexatious.

James Lawrence, who had his costs paid for by Conor McGregor, has now announced his intention to appeal the ruling refusing him his costs in the case. The Director of Public Prosecutions is currently reviewing the investigation report to decide if there is any basis for a prosecution.

As the case continues to unfold, both parties prepare for potential appeals and legal battles ahead. The outcome of these proceedings could have significant implications for all parties involved.
