The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, held recently, saw significant developments in the Caucasus region. Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev participated in the event, engaging in high-profile meetings with various world leaders.

Aliyev's first encounter at the SCO was with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The conversation touched upon the expansion of trade between the two countries and the digital economy, as well as the importance of Chinese goods being transported through Azerbaijani territory and the significance of the Trans-Caspian route.

Aliyev also met with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The discussion focused on cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkey in other countries, specifically prospects for joint energy projects. Aliyev and Erdogan highlighted the positive dynamics formed as a result of the recent summit in Washington, which testifies to the international community's support for the process of promoting peace and normalizing relations.

One of the most noteworthy developments was the possibility of delivering Azerbaijani gas to Syria through Turkey territory, with Qatar's financial support. This proposal was discussed during the leaders' meeting.

Aliyev also met with the Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu and Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif. These meetings further underscored Azerbaijan's growing international ties.

The summit also saw the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Pakistan. Additionally, a strategic partnership was formed between Armenia and China, and diplomatic ties were established between Armenia and Azerbaijan's neighbour, Pakistan.

During the SCO summit, the heads of state stressed the importance of the Kars-Iğdır-Dilucu railway lines and exchanged views on ongoing railway projects in Azerbaijan, including in the Nakhchivan region. Discussions between Aliyev and Erdogan touched upon cooperation between SOCAR and Turkey's BOTAŞ company.

Aliyev and Jin Liqun, the President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, signed a joint declaration on strategic cooperation. Aliyev also met with a number of Chinese businesspersons to discuss increased cooperation, including the building of a production facility for solar panels and participation in the Baku International Sea Port project.

The Washington summit resulted in a joint seven-point declaration between Aliyev, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of Armenia, and US President Donald Trump. This declaration is a testament to the commitment of these nations towards promoting peace and regional stability.

Throughout the summit, the leaders emphasized the need for constructive dialogue, mutual trust, and regional stability. The Caucasus region is experiencing changes, and these meetings and agreements mark a step towards a more peaceful and prosperous future.
