Leading figure Hamm maintains his position in North Rhine-Westphalia

In the heart of North Rhine-Westphalia, the city of Hamm has once again claimed the top spot in the size class of cities with 100,000 to 200,000 inhabitants. This impressive feat was revealed in the ADFC Bike Climate Test 2024, a comprehensive survey conducted by the Hochschule Niederrhein (University of Applied Sciences Niederrhein) through its SWK E² Institute for Energy Technology and Energy Management.

The survey, which attracted 331 participants from Hamm, highlighted both strengths and areas for improvement. While Hamm excelled in the accessibility of its city center, with 80% of respondents rating it positively, criticism was levied towards the width of bike lanes, the quality of bike lane surfaces, and obstructions caused by incorrectly parked vehicles on bike lanes.

Nevertheless, the city of Hamm showed considerable progress in the survey compared to 2022, particularly in the opening of one-way streets for cyclists in the opposite direction and improved signage for cyclists, which received positive feedback from survey respondents.

Mr. Gniot, the contact for Traffic Planning in Hamm, invites further inquiries via email at the Traffic Planning office, located at Gustav-Heinemann-Straße 105, 59065 Hamm. This office is also accessible via the city's service portal, which offers additional information.

It's worth noting that Hamm ranked tenth nationwide among cities of this size in the survey. Yet, the city continues to strive for improvement, as demonstrated by the construction of a new, large bike parking garage in the city center.

Cycling in Hamm appears to be a popular choice, with 66% of survey participants stating that cycling is mainly fun. The city's commitment to cycling infrastructure and safety is evident, and the results of the ADFC Bike Climate Test 2024 serve as a testament to Hamm's ongoing efforts to foster a bike-friendly environment.

For those interested in delving deeper into the results of the ADFC Bike Climate Test 2024, further information is readily available. Hamm's dedication to improving its cycling infrastructure and promoting a bike-friendly culture is a journey that continues, and the city looks forward to future surveys and improvements.
