Learning and exchange opportunities facilitated by Kim-Sprachcafé
In the heart of Lünen, Germany, the KIM Language Café has been providing a welcoming and supportive environment for language learners since February 2025. Organised by Hares Kohestani, a German teacher and employee of the Municipal Integration Management, the café aims to accompany participants a step further in their language learning journey.
The KIM Language Café is designed for individuals who are waiting for a language course or looking to consolidate their existing knowledge. It offers a unique opportunity for participants to seek support for everyday and administrative questions, making it an invaluable resource for those navigating life in a new country.
Hares Kohestani emphasises the importance of the social aspect in language acquisition. He believes that language learning is more than just grammar and vocabulary. The café covers a wide range of topics, from everyday conversations to questions about grammar, and even integration-specific contents such as life in Germany or political structures.
The café has proven to be beneficial for many participants. One mother of two children, for instance, has been gradually gaining confidence to speak German. Her children, who already have good language skills, also benefit from the café's friendly atmosphere. Two members of the café have even obtained an A2 language certificate from different providers.
The regular group of participants has formed a close-knit community, fostering cultural exchange and mutual support. The café takes place every Wednesday from 4:30 PM to 6 PM at Mitmach.RAUM (Marktstraße 2a), Lünen.
The Municipal Integration Management, which funds the café, also receives funds from the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) of the European Union. The café is linked to the consultancy work of the Municipal Integration Management, demonstrating a commitment to holistic support for newcomers.
The KIM Language Café is more than just a language learning space. It is a place where people can come together, practice German in a protected environment, and engage in everyday exchange. With no fixed curriculum, the café allows for flexibility in meeting the needs of each participant, making it a truly inclusive space for language learners of all levels.
