Legal Complaint Submitted against TMC Politician Mahua Moitra for Offensive Statements towards Home Minister Amit Shah
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has called upon West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to take punitive action against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra, following her reported remarks against Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
In a video posted on social media earlier, Moitra is said to have criticised Shah's assertions on infiltration, stating that the borders are protected by the security forces that come under the Home Ministry. The remarks, however, have been labelled as derogatory by some news agencies, with reports suggesting they were labelled as "anti-Hindu" and "casteist" by Zee News.
The FIR against Moitra was filed by BJP leader Ramapada Maiti on November 5, 2021, at the Mana Camp police station. The complaint was registered under sections 196 and 197 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Sai believes that Moitra's audacity to make such remarks is only possible with the backing of the Trinamool Congress high command and Mamata Banerjee. He has demanded an apology from Banerjee for the alleged remarks made by Moitra, and expects an apology on behalf of the entire country.
Sai has also asked Banerjee to clarify whether she agrees with Moitra's statement or not. If Banerjee does not agree with Moitra's statement, Sai expects her to take punitive action against her party leader.
BJP leader and Lok Sabha MP Ravi Shankar Prasad has previously slammed Moitra's reported remarks. The remarks made by Moitra include a suggestion that Shah's head should be cut off, which has sparked widespread condemnation.
The incident is being closely followed by various news agencies, with the controversy continuing to make headlines in the political sphere. It remains to be seen whether Banerjee will take any action against Moitra or issue a statement clarifying her stance on the matter.
