Former Dallas Cowboys Linebacker Lee Roy Jordan Passes Away at 84
Lee Roy Jordan, a legendary figure in the history of the Dallas Cowboys, has passed away at the age of 84. Jordan's son, David, confirmed his death to the Dallas Morning News, but no further information about the cause of Jordan's death or funeral arrangements has been provided.
Jordan, who hailed from Alabama, was selected by the Cowboys with the sixth overall pick of the 1963 draft. He quickly became a key member of the team, starting in 174 out of 187 career games. His career with the Cowboys spanned over a decade, during which he was a part of the iconic "Doomsday Defense" that helped the team secure three Super Bowl victories.
Jordan's contributions to the Cowboys were recognised with numerous accolades. He was inducted into the Cowboys' Ring of Honor in 1989 and named to the Cowboys' Silver Anniversary team. Jordan was also a five-time Pro Bowl selection and recorded 32 interceptions and 19.5 sacks in his illustrious career.
One of Jordan's most memorable moments came in the Dallas Cowboys' first Super Bowl victory, Super Bowl VI in the 1971 season. Although specific teammate lists for that Super Bowl are not detailed, Jordan played alongside key players such as middle linebacker Chuck Howley and linebacker Dave Edwards, among others.
