Legendary musician Rick Davies, one of the founders and frontmen of the iconic band Supertramp, has passed away at the age of 81.

Rick Davies, the charismatic vocalist and songwriter behind the iconic British rock band Supertramp, has passed away at the age of 81. Davies, who was born in Swindon, southwest England in 1944, had a lifelong love for jazz, blues, and the piano.

Davies helped form Supertramp in 1970 after placing a magazine advert looking for musicians. The band, which would go on to leave an indelible mark on rock music history, was initially led by Davies and Roger Hodgson. However, Hodgson left the band in 1983 to pursue a solo career, and Davies retained the band name and continued the group alone.

After Hodgson's departure, Davies continued to play keyboards and harmonica, leading Supertramp to produce some of their most successful albums. One such album was Breakfast in America, released in 1979. The album, which blended elements of classic rock and pop, was a Grammy winner and made them one of the era's cultural touchstones. Songs like Goodbye Stranger and My Kind Of Lady became staples of the band's repertoire.

Supertramp's music, led by Davies, continues to inspire many. The band's statement described Davies as the voice and pianist behind the band's most iconic songs. They also described him as warm, resilient, and devoted to his wife Sue, with whom he shared over five decades of marriage.

Davies' death occurred after a more than decade-long battle with multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer. His music and legacy are seen as timeless, with the belief that great songs never die, they live on.

The loss of Rick Davies is a significant one for the music industry and for fans of Supertramp. His contributions to rock music will never be forgotten.
