Legendary rockstar Ozzy Osbourne hits No. 1 spot in the American music charts once more.
In the world of hard rock, Ozzy Osbourne's legacy continues to shine brightly, with his compilation album "The Essential Ozzy Osbourne" returning to the top spot on the Top Hard Rock Albums chart. This marks the longest-running No. 1 album for the rock icon, spending four weeks at the summit.
The resurgence of "The Essential Ozzy Osbourne" can be traced back to the icon's passing in July. Since then, Ozzy's music consumption has skyrocketed, with his name plastered across Billboard's rock charts. In the past tracking week, the album moved a little less than 15,300 equivalent units, up almost 19% compared to the prior period.
This surge has also had a ripple effect on Ozzy's former band, Black Sabbath, as their music consumption has increased as well.
"The Essential Ozzy Osbourne" has improved its standing on every Billboard tally on which it appears. It has returned to the top 10 on both the Top Rock & Alternative Albums and Top Rock Albums charts, climbing to Nos. 8 and 6, respectively. The album, which previously held the fourth position, has spent twice as long at No. 1 compared to Ozzy's second-longest-running No. 1 albums, "Patient Number 9" and "Scream".
The album, which features many of Ozzy's most famous tracks, might not disappear from the Top Hard Rock Albums chart for quite some time. However, each week, some songs and albums from Ozzy and Black Sabbath fall or disappear from various rankings.
Meanwhile, the top spot on the Top Hard Rock Albums chart was briefly held by Babymetal's "Metal Forth", but it fell off the chart after just one week at No. 1. The band had dominated several Billboard charts in recent weeks with high sales, replacing Ozzy at No. 1 on the Top Hard Rock Albums chart. However, Ozzy's "The Essential Ozzy Osbourne" had returned to No. 1 on the same chart but was later replaced by Babymetal; it also recently dropped out of the Top 10 after a surge following Osbourne's death.
Despite the temporary change, the enduring popularity of "The Essential Ozzy Osbourne" is a testament to the enduring impact of the rock legend. With four No. 1 albums in its career, "The Essential Ozzy Osbourne" continues to be a must-have for any hard rock fan.
