Arthur Brauss, the renowned German actor known for his iconic role as Police Sergeant Richard Block in the popular primetime crime series "Tatort", passed away on Saturday at the age of 89 in his Munich apartment.

Brauss' wife, Marie Pocolin-Brauss, confirmed the sad news to dpa on Sunday. A close friend also confirmed the news to the "Bild" newspaper. According to Pocolin-Brauss, Brauss passed away peacefully in his sleep, offering her comfort that he did not suffer. The cause of Brauss' death was not disclosed.

Before embarking on his acting career, Brauss pursued a scholarship in the USA and studied mathematics and economics. However, he eventually discovered his true passion for acting.

He appeared in more than 100 productions of "Tatort" and other series at home and abroad, including "Derrick", "Der Alte", "Polizeiruf 110", "The Black Forest Clinic", and "Commissario Laurenti". One of his last TV appearances was in the series "Morden im Norden" in 2014.

In recent years, Brauss lived quietly with his wife in the Munich district of Schwabing. Despite his fame, he led a private life and preferred to keep his personal matters out of the spotlight.
