The Brandenburg state parliament is set to host an exhibition titled "The Other Russia", opening on the 9th of September and running until the 6th of November. The exhibition is a poignant exploration of the history, work, persecution, and dissolution of the human rights organisation Memorial.

Ulrike Liedtke, the president of the state parliament, will officially open the exhibition. The guest of honour at the opening is expected to be Irina Scherbakowa, a Russian historian and the chair of Memorial, a now-banned Russian human rights organisation.

Memorial was founded in 1989 in the Soviet Union and has been dedicated to documenting the fates of political prisoners in Russia since 2009. The organisation has also collected testimonies and memories of survivors of state violence, providing a vital platform for their stories to be heard.

The exhibition features a range of compelling displays, including drawings by inmates and a makeshift garment crafted in a penal and labor camp. Monitors throughout the exhibition showcase conversations with survivors and activists, offering a powerful insight into their experiences.

In 2022, Memorial was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for its work. The organisation's dedication to human rights and its unwavering commitment to truth and justice make "The Other Russia" an exhibition not to be missed.

Visitors to the exhibition will gain a unique understanding of the struggles faced by those who dared to speak out against injustice in Russia. "The Other Russia" is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and a powerful reminder of the importance of standing up for what is right.

Don't miss this opportunity to learn about the history of Memorial and the ongoing struggle for human rights in Russia. The exhibition "The Other Russia" opens on the 9th of September at the Brandenburg state parliament.
