The political landscape of New York is about to undergo significant changes, with several key positions becoming vacant in the state Legislature and Congress.

In Queens, Assembly Member Zohran Mamdani's mayoral victory will lead to a special election for his Assembly seat next year. Meanwhile, in Manhattan, State Sen. Brad Hoylman-Sigal's seat is expected to open up in January, following his general election win for Manhattan borough president.

The decision of several state lawmakers to run for the vacated congressional seat, previously held by Rep. Jerry Nadler, could further compound these shakeups. Nadler, who has represented his district for over three decades, has announced that he will not seek reelection next year.

Among those eyeing Nadler's seat are Assembly Members Tony Simone and Alex Bores. However, some of these potential candidates could decide to run for Hoylman-Sigal's seat instead, creating a scramble for both positions.

In the Upper West Side, Assembly Member Micah Lasher has emerged as a likely frontrunner for the Assembly seat. If local Assembly Members Jonathan Rivera, Bill Conrad, or Karen McMahon decide to run for the Senate seat left by the expected victory of state Sen. Sean Ryan in Buffalo, there could be a similar scramble to replace them.

Politico New York recently reported that Assembly Member Linda Rosenthal may opt to run for Hoylman-Sigal's seat, which would open up her own seat in the lower chamber.

Another potential change is Assembly Member Harvey Epstein's expected entry into the City Council, which would leave his seat up for grabs for either a political newcomer or a soon-to-be former City Council member like Keith Powers.

However, the available information does not specify potential candidates for the New York State Legislature in 2027 amid these expected significant changes.

The upcoming election cycle promises to bring about a new crop of representatives in the state Legislature and Congress, reshaping the political landscape of New York for years to come.
