Lego Introduces $1,000 Death Star Model, Massive in Size

In an exciting announcement for Lego fans and Star Wars enthusiasts alike, the Danish toy company has revealed its latest masterpiece - the UCS Lego Death Star. Scheduled for release on October 1, this epic set boasts an impressive 9,023 pieces, making it the largest set ever created by Lego.

The new Death Star diorama is a 30-inch-wide, 10-inch-deep disc, a departure from the full spheres of past Death Stars. This flatter shape may make it easier to display compared to its predecessors, offering a more manageable footprint for collectors.

The set includes a series of lifts, each with sliding doors, adding a dynamic element to the structure. A highlight of the new set is a small meditation room for Darth Vader, based on the one aboard the Executor in The Empire Strikes Back.

The new Lego Death Star features vignettes based on both the first and second Death Stars as seen in A New Hope and Return of the Jedi. Familiar scenes like the trash compactor, Princess Leia's detention block, the tractor beam power generator, the meeting room for Imperial command, the battery control for the Death Star's main laser, and the Emperor's throne room are all included.

In addition to these iconic scenes, the new set also includes a pretty sizable hangar, complete with a buildable Imperial shuttle. The set includes minifigures of characters like Vader, the Emperor, Luke, Han, Chewie, 3PO, and Leia, as well as deep cuts like Sim Aloo, Admiral Motti, General Tagge, Admiral Yularen, a Hot Tub trooper, and two Rogue One figures: Orson Krennic and Galen Erso.

With a parts count more than double that of the 2016 set, the new Lego Death Star is the most expensive set Lego has ever made. It retails at $1,000-$150 more than the UCS AT-AT walker from 2021 and the 2017 UCS Millennium Falcon, which initially retailed for $800 before price increases in the last few years, and now retails for $850.

Preorders for the new Lego Death Star are available, and the article provides links for those interested. The new set promises to be a must-have for any serious Lego or Star Wars collector, offering a challenging build and an impressive display piece. Stay tuned for updates on upcoming Marvel, Star Wars, Star Trek, DC Universe, and Doctor Who releases.
