Title Drop: Poker Power with a Brain Boost!

Lena Evans, a double WSOP Circuit ring winner and brains behind the women-focused group Poker United, delivers the ultimate poker book, "Poker Paves the Path to a Fitter Brain". Having enlisted the help of legendary poker champions like Patrik Antonius, Kristen Foxen, Barry Greenstein, and many more, this book promises to illuminate the intellectual side of poker, demonstrating how the game can both enhance cognitive capabilities and enrich your life.

Intrigued by poker's intellectual challenges, Lena's journey began when she was introduced to the game by an enthusiastic partner in California. Fascinated by poker's influence over her brain health, Lena has chronicled her findings in this exciting new book. If you want to know more, check out the book's website here.

So, what does the book have in store for you? Here's the lowdown:

Perfect for poker enthusiasts and newcomers alike, "Poker Paves the Path to a Fitter Brain" explores how poker strengthens cognitive functions such as memory, attention, decision-making, and problem-solving, all of which contribute to a more rewarding and dynamic lifestyle. To bring the concept to life, the book incorporates insights from both the poker and medical industries, allowing readers to extract inspiration for their own poker journey.

Not only is poker a blast, but it also has the potential to bring about positive changes in cognitive functions. Scientific research substantiates that playing poker stimulates the brain by improving executive functions, emotional regulation, and stress reduction. In this book, you'll dive into these benefits and discover practical ways to implement them for a better life, whether at the table or beyond!

" To celebrate our debut week on Amazon, between May 1-7, lucky readers will be offered an exclusive opportunity to claim a free private coaching session with one of our esteemed collaborators," Lena told PokerNews. "Additionally, the book will be included in event packages, particularly centered around encouraging mental fitness for women and older adults."

Lena didn't stop there; she recently sat down for an in-depth Q&A with PokerNews. Read on for the juicy details!

Old Hands: When and why did you decide to write this book?

Lena Evans: When an unexpected invitation for a TEDx talk arrived in 2021, I seized the chance to discuss engaging topics. With "Why poker is fantastic for your brain" as my intended focus, I delved deep into researching the cognitive, emotional, and neurological benefits of poker. The incredible response to my talk urged me to explore the subject even further, eventually leading to the creation of my book. My aim was to expand upon the topics I touched upon at TEDx and offer readers a comprehensive, practical guide to leveraging poker for mental fitness and personal growth. Given the increasing importance of maintaining mental acuity as we age, especially for women, I saw the book as a means to promote cognitive wellbeing and emotional resilience.

Brainy and Bold: What draws you to this subject?

As I prepared for my TEDx talk and then my book, I delved deeper into the science underpinning poker's mental and emotional benefits. The experience left me in awe of the game's power as a tool for advancing our brain health, especially for older adults and women, who make up 66% of the six million people diagnosed with Alzheimer's globally. My personal commitment to spreading awareness about brain health and promoting cognitive engagement inspired me to champion poker as an empowering activity for mental stimulation and resilience. Together with my dear friend Maria Shriver, founder of the Women's Alzheimer's Movement, we're working to boost brain health conversations and advocate for lifelong cognitive engagement, particularly for women. As the founder of the world-renowned women's poker organization, Poker League of Nations, I'm dedicated to amplifying the message about poker as an enjoyable, social, and empowering opportunity to train your brain and strengthen your emotional resilience.

Challenging Poker Brilliance: What was the toughest aspect of writing this book?

The most challenging aspect of penning the book was articulating the myriad benefits that poker has on cognitive health in an accessible, engaging manner. I aimed to create a harmonious blend of scientific insights and personal stories, ensuring the content resonated with readers while maintaining the book's depth. Since poker can appear intimidating for novice players, I spent considerable time crafting the book to showcase the intellectual rewards that poker can bring, inspiring a fresh perspective on the game.

More Than a Game: Will the book be accessible at poker events like the WSOP or have any accompanying activities planned?

Absolutely! I recently attended a live event on the East Coast for the book's debut and can't wait for more to come. Prior to the launch, we held an exclusive online pre-sale, offers, and giveaways to engage our dedicated readers. My collaborators and I will be hosting book signings, Meet-and-Greets, and other events where you can grab a copy, chat with the authors, and discuss the book's crucial themes. Stay tuned for the latest details as we finalize the event schedule. See you at the WSOP (and other notable poker stops)!
