Libyan Islamic Bank's digital banking operations are spearheaded by Backbase's technology platform
Backbase, a leading digital banking solutions provider, has launched a new digital platform for the Libyan Islamic Bank. This marks Backbase's first deployment in Libya and represents a significant step in the bank's digital transformation.
The digital platform, enabled through a close collaboration with OneTech Business Solutions (OTBS), aims to place customers at the centre of the bank's services. OTBS, a regional implementation partner for Backbase with deep expertise in digital deployment, ensured that the platform was adapted to meet the requirements of the Libyan market and regulatory environment.
The mobile app, which is part of the digital platform, offers a redesigned experience for managing daily finances. It enables secure logins, real-time transaction monitoring, internal transfers, and personalised self-service capabilities. Customers can send instant payments, use in-app messaging, and access a branch and ATM locator.
The integration with LYPAY, the Central Bank of Libya's instant payments service, demonstrates the agility of the Backbase platform in aligning with emerging regulatory frameworks. This ability was also evident in the platform's adaptation to the Libyan market and its regulatory environment.
Aymen Daoud, Regional Vice President for Africa at Backbase, stated that the launch reflects the bank's ability to lead and evolve in Libya's rapidly changing financial sector. He added that the collaboration provided a scalable foundation for long-term transformation of the Libyan Islamic Bank.
The Libyan Islamic Bank has redefined its operating model around speed, flexibility, and accessibility. The new digital platform is a testament to this transformation, and it is expected to drive growth and innovation in the bank's services.
This launch is part of Backbase's strategic expansion across North Africa. The company is committed to empowering banks to accelerate their digital journeys and deliver exceptional customer experiences.
In August 2025, the Libyan Islamic Bank started its journey with the new digital platform powered by Backbase, heralding a new era of digital banking in Libya.
