Liverpool experiences setback in Alexander Isak's fitness as striker fails to appear

Alexander Isak, the Swedish striker who recently sealed a British record transfer to Liverpool from Newcastle United, is eagerly analysing his readiness to play before deciding when to return to action for the Reds.

Isak's debut for Liverpool may come in the Merseyside derby against Everton later this month, but his current lack of match fitness could potentially delay his debut. The transfer saga was drawn out over several weeks, with Isak missing out on Newcastle's friendlies during the pre-season and not featuring in the Magpies' matchday squads for the first three games of the season.

Isak's participation in Slovakia was not forthcoming, and he was also absent from Sweden's qualifier against Slovakia. In his absence, Anthony Elanga scored in the 2-2 draw for Sweden, while Viktor Gyokeres started up front in his place.

During the international break, Sweden will play a second match against Kosovo on Monday evening. It is possible that Isak may be given a cameo appearance during the break to help him regain his match fitness.

Following his move to Liverpool, Isak gave his first official interview with the club's in-house media, expressing his ambition to play as soon as possible. However, his tricky summer due to lack of games and restricted training could mean that he may have to miss the start of Liverpool's Champions League encounter with Atletico Madrid at Anfield.

In the meantime, Isak will not be replaced by a specific player in the Liverpool squad for the games against Burnley and Atletico Madrid, but forwards such as Salah, Gakpo, and Ekitike could potentially take his place if he starts missing.

Isak is scheduled to make his Liverpool debut against Burnley at Turf Moor next Sunday, but his readiness to play will depend on his fitness level and the manager's decision. The Swede is determined to make a positive impact at Anfield and is looking forward to his first taste of Premier League action with his new club.
