Livestock tragedy in Tyrol: 13 cows perish
On Saturday, a tragic incident occurred near the Bergkastel cable car station in Nauders, Landeck district. A livestock transporter, carrying 43 mother cows and calves, experienced a 70-meter drop from a forest road on steep and rocky terrain.
The accident resulted in the hospitalization of the driver, who was flown to the hospital by helicopter. Unfortunately, thirteen cattle lost their lives in the incident. Some of the animals were killed instantly, while others had to be emergency slaughtered due to their injuries.
The recovery of the vehicle was a challenging task, taking several hours and involving two towing companies on site. The transport company responsible for the incident has not been publicly named.
The livestock transporter was scheduled to bring the animals down from the alpine pasture in the morning. The exact number of surviving cattle is not specified at this time.
The accident did not involve any human fatalities beyond the driver. The incident has shocked the local community and sparked calls for improved safety measures on forest roads used for livestock transportation.
