Local Democracy Alliance Initiates 2025 Local Elections Youth Voting Drive

In the city of Luenen, a significant initiative is underway to encourage young people to participate in the upcoming local election on September 14, 2025. The "Partnership for Democracy Luenen" has launched a city-wide poster campaign, which is part of a larger nationwide effort to strengthen democratic engagement at the local level.

The Integrated Social Planning & Participation team of the city administration leads the efforts in Luenen for the federal program "Democracy lives!". This program, funded by the Federal Ministry for Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, aims to promote social cohesion, prevent extremism, and strengthen democratic engagement at the local level.

The AWO district office Ruhr-Lippe-Ems carries the coordination and specialist office for the partnership with the city of Luenen. They are responsible for supporting project ideas, connecting actors, and advising on funding opportunities for the federal program in Luenen.

The campaign, which is non-partisan in nature, includes two newly developed poster designs. These poster designs are now on display throughout the city of Luenen, with schools and youth facilities among the locations where the posters are being displayed.

The campaign targets young people, who, as the future of democracy, are being emphasised as crucial for the success of the democratic process. Young people aged 16 and above in North Rhine-Westphalia are eligible to vote in local elections, and the "Partnership for Democracy Luenen" campaign specifically aims to raise awareness about the election and encourage participation.

The heads of coordination and the specialist office of the partnership project "Demokratie lebt!" in Lünen are Susanne Baranowsky and Stefan Boehlke. On August 28, 2025, the "Partnership for Democracy Luenen" is launching a city-wide poster campaign, with the aim of increasing voter awareness and participation among young people.

The city of Luenen is part of a nationwide network of over 300 local partnerships as part of the new funding period of the federal program "Democracy lives!". The Partnership for Democracy Luenen's city-wide poster campaign is just one example of the many initiatives taking place across the country to strengthen democratic engagement at the local level.
