The Rietberg Local History Museum on Klosterstraße is set to open its doors to visitors on September 14th, as part of the nationwide Day of Open Heritage. This year, the museum is offering a unique experience, with several highlights that are not to be missed.

For the first time, an epitaph, which has been in the possession of the local history association for a long time, will be displayed prominently within the museum. This ancient artifact adds a touch of history to the exhibition, providing a glimpse into the past.

The museum's garden is a particular highlight, featuring the "engagement arbour" and a rose bed adorned with a sculpture by local artist Angelo Monitillo, "The Dancing Peddler". The garden also includes a sculpture that connects history and modernity, creating a harmonious blend of the old and the new.

Inside the museum, visitors can explore various areas, including a cozy "good room", a bedroom with a charming chamber pot affectionately known in Rietberg as the "pinkelpot", and numerous kitchen utensils. The museum's weaving room offers live demonstrations, providing a glimpse into the craftsmanship of yesteryears.

The upper floor houses an exhibition of scales, which is sure to captivate visitors. The house, built in 1645, has undergone a significant renovation led by Dr. Michael Orlob in 1983. Dr. Orlob, now the honorary chairman, will provide a comprehensive insight into the history of the house during the guided tours.

Two guided tours of the museum are scheduled for 2 PM and 4 PM, and no registration is required. The attic houses numerous everyday objects related to various trades, offering a fascinating glimpse into the daily life of Rietberg's past.

To add to the experience, the archive team will offer coffee and freshly baked waffles in the fireplace room. The museum's garden and the sculpture "Der tanzende Wanderhändler" in the garden of the Heimatmuseum Rietberg, created by Hermann Hinz, are also not to be missed.

So, mark your calendars for September 14th and join us at the Rietberg Local History Museum for a journey through time. Whether you're a history buff or simply looking for a unique experience, this museum promises to deliver.
