Senator Tom O'Mara Honours Workers and Celebrates Regional Economy

Senator Tom O'Mara, in a written statement released this Labor Day, paid tribute to the workers of the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes region, praising their dedication and the region's rich industrial heritage.

O'Mara began by acknowledging the 150th anniversary of I.D. Booth, a family-run supplier that has been operating in the region since 1875. He also highlighted the Alstom railcar plant in Hornell, where the first American-made high-speed trains recently began service on the Northeast Corridor.

The Senator commended the skilled workforce at the Alstom plant, some of whom represent multiple generations, for their contributions to the nation's transportation infrastructure. He further urged New Yorkers to reflect on the workers and industries powering the state's economy.

O'Mara quoted Theodore Roosevelt, stating, "Far and away the best prize that life offers is the chance to work hard at work worth doing." He expressed his intention to ensure that economic focus finds its place in the government in the future, calling for the state to recommit to economic growth and job creation.

The region's leading all-digital news publication, FingerLakes1.com, has been keeping residents informed for over two decades. The platform offers a free app for iOS devices named FL1 on the Go! and accepts leads for news stories. For those interested in sending leads, the contact is news@[their website].

The challenges of recent years make Labor Day especially important for honoring workers. Whether it's educators, farmers, healthcare professionals, manufacturers, or any other kind of worker, their contributions are essential to the region's continued success. Local workers in the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes region continue to carry on a legacy of craftsmanship and innovation.

Despite the lack of recent activity in the production of high-speed trains in the region, O'Mara's statement serves as a reminder of the region's potential and the importance of supporting its workforce. Labor Day, in this context, is not just a day off, but a powerful moment to honour the workers who keep the region moving forward.
