SD Worx-Protime Shifts Focus to Sprint Victories in Tour de France Femmes

Lorena Wiebes of SD Worx-Protime emerged victorious in stage 3 of the Tour de France Femmes, marking a significant shift in strategy for the team. The rider, who had given up general classification ambitions, is now focusing on sprint victories.

Wiebes took the yellow jersey off Marianne Vos (Visma-Lease a Bike) at the intermediate sprint in Vern-d'Anjou, earning 13 points. This move also placed her at the top of the points classification, with a total of 130 points compared to Vos' 112.

The decision to focus on stage victories came as a result of Lotte Kopecky's trouble training in the weeks between the Giro d'Italia Women and the Tour de France. This change in plans gave Wiebes' sprint skills a higher priority.

SD Worx-Protime worked tirelessly to keep the breakaway in check throughout stage 3, chasing for an impressive 100km. Despite the exhausting effort, Wiebes expressed concern for her team's recovery.

Wiebes' teammate, Lorena Wiebes, described their team as feeling like a family. She thanked her teammates for their support in bringing her into a position to take the win.

Looking forward, Wiebes is eager for another sprint on stage 4. She currently does not have the green jersey as a target but doesn't want to give away points to Vos. Anna van der Breggen, still positioned in seventh place overall at 21 seconds behind Vos, will likely be a formidable competitor.

Despite the change in strategy, Vos has won the Tour de France Femmes green jersey in 2022 and 2024. However, Wiebes' impressive performance in stage 3 suggests that she is a strong contender for the green jersey this year.

In the end, the Tour de France Femmes is shaping up to be an exciting competition, with Wiebes and Vos both showing their prowess on the race.
