Louisville Cardinals Dominate Eastern Kentucky Colonels in Season Opener

The Louisville Cardinals kicked off their 2022 season with a resounding victory over the Eastern Kentucky Colonels, securing a 41-10 win.

Quarterback Brady Allen took to the field in the second half, completing six passes for 69 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. In the first half, Miller Moss led the charge, completing 17 passes for 223 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. Notably, Isaac Brown, last season's ACC rushing leader, scored on runs of 31 and 68 yards.

The Louisville offense amassed an impressive 543 yards, with Moss spreading his passes to eight different receivers and also scoring a rushing touchdown. Caullin Lacy, another standout player, had a 93-yard punt return for a touchdown, the second-longest in Louisville history. Lacy also caught four passes for 62 yards.

The Cardinals' offense did not allow any sacks and had three interceptions, two of which were snagged by Vito Tisdale Jr., who returned one 29 yards for a touchdown.

On the other side of the ball, the Louisville defense held Eastern Kentucky to 150 total yards, with 38 yards gained in the first half. The Colonels' offense struggled, with Myles Burkett completing only 5 out of 14 passes for 76 yards. Brady Hensley scored the only offensive touchdown for the Colonels, gaining 24 yards on nine carries.

Eastern Kentucky managed to gain 69 yards on their final drive of the game, resulting in a 38-yard field goal by Buzz Flabiano. However, the damage was already done, with Louisville scoring touchdowns on each of their first five drives, leading to a 41-0 score with 2:58 remaining in the first half.

The Louisville Cardinals demonstrated their dominance in the season opener, setting a strong foundation for the rest of the season. As they move forward, they will aim to continue their winning streak and solidify their position in the ACC.
