"Lunar Eclipse Spectacle": Unique celestial events at the planetarium

The Planetarium Halle is set to host two special events on September 7th, offering residents and visitors the rare opportunity to witness a total lunar eclipse, also known as a "Blood Moon", in the Star Hall. The events are scheduled for 6 PM and 7:30 PM.

During a total lunar eclipse, the alignment of the sun, Earth, and moon allows the moon to fully enter the Earth's umbra, resulting in a copper-red hue, a spectacle known as the "Blood Moon". This event will take place on September 7th, with the totality ending at 8:53 PM and the moon's exit from the umbra trackable until just before 10 PM.

The twilight will still provide a bright sky during the lunar eclipse, making initial observation somewhat challenging due to the moon's low height above the eastern horizon. However, the moon will rise eclipsed at the eastern horizon around 7:45 PM.

Throughout the event, the moon will be significantly darkened by the eclipse during its rise, and the partial phase, offering the most visible part of the eclipse, ends at 9:57 PM on September 7th. The moon does not become completely dark during a total lunar eclipse; instead, its reddish colour is caused by Earth's atmosphere redirecting the reddish portion of sunlight.

Tickets for these events can be purchased online at [http://www.planetarium-our-website] or at the Planetarium box office during opening hours. Unfortunately, the identity of the astronomer leading the "Starry Hour Special: Live Lunar Eclipse" event remains undisclosed.

It's essential to note that not every month results in a lunar eclipse due to the moon's orbit not being precisely aligned with the Earth and sun. This rare celestial event is not to be missed, and the Planetarium Halle offers a unique opportunity to learn more about this natural phenomenon.
