MINI and Deus Ex Machina Unveil Unique John Cooper Works Vehicles

In an exciting collaboration, MINI and Deus Ex Machina have brought together the worlds of automotive and surf culture to create two distinctive vehicle concepts. The results, an electric show car named "The Skeg" and a John Cooper Works model powered by an internal combustion engine, showcase a fusion of technology and aesthetics inspired by the surf world.

A Surfboard in Motion

The dashboard of both vehicles, made of fiberglass, draws inspiration from surfboard construction, bringing a touch of the ocean to the automotive realm. The electric "The Skeg" boasts a powertrain that produces 190 kW/258 PS, while the internal combustion engine model maintains the performance and spirit of the John Cooper Works line.

Minimalism Meets Acceleration

"The Skeg" embodies the surf world's materials, technologies, and philosophies of minimalism and acceleration. The exterior is adorned with expressive graphics that pay homage to MINI's motorsport history, featuring numbers, geometric elements, and bright colours. The interior, designed as a mobile surf shop, is simple and practical.

Embracing Imperfection

The design emphasis is on authenticity, with a 'raw, handcrafted vibe' that celebrates 'the beauty of imperfection'. Semi-transparent fiberglass components reduce weight by 15% while optimizing aerodynamics through improved air flow. The roofs of both vehicles display a white "X" as a symbol for the co-creation process of MINI and Deus Ex Machina.

A Statement for Electric Mobility

The body of the electric car shines in an eye-catching yellow-silver colour mix, a bold statement for electric mobility at MINI. The materials and colours used in the vehicles form bold contrasts, breaking away from glossy finishes. The "Flex-Tip Surf Spoiler" improves aerodynamics by dynamically adapting to air streams.

Celebrating Motorsport History

The vehicles aim to celebrate MINI's motorsport history with a creative design vision. The cockpits of the vehicles feature visible seams, prominent switches, and traditional levers to emphasize their mechanical character. The collaboration between MINI and Deus Ex Machina is driven by a shared passion for machines, innovation, and creativity, and an authentic relationship with their own communities.

Availability and Data Sharing

Both vehicle concepts can be unlocked for viewing by clicking the "Unlock Content" button, which may involve sharing data with third parties. The electric model "The Skeg" by MINI will be available together with Deus Ex Machina starting in mid-2024.

This collaboration is more than just a fusion of automotive and surf culture; it's a testament to the shared passion for machines, innovation, and creativity that drives both MINI and Deus Ex Machina.
