The luxury automaker Mercedes-Benz has made some exciting announcements in the realm of electric vehicles (EVs) and the iconic G-Class.

Starting with the new electric G580, priced at £180,860 in the UK, this model promises a range of around 300 miles and a 0-62mph acceleration in just 5.0 seconds. Powered by a 116kWh battery, the G580 delivers an impressive 579bhp and 859lb/ft of torque, making it a formidable force on the road.

While the new electric G-Class is not following Mercedes' current nomenclature to arrive as the EQG, it does feature a unique powertrain consisting of four electric motors, each powering a single wheel.

Meanwhile, the new Mercedes EQS SUV, revealed in April, is available with two 4Matic powertrains in the UK. Priced from £129,170, this luxurious EV offers a comfortable ride and advanced technology.

Interestingly, the separate 'EQ' designation for EVs is set to end at Mercedes. The manufacturer has announced a new E300de diesel PHEV with 308bhp and a 68-mile EV range, costing from £66,610.

In addition to these new EVs, Mercedes is also planning a 'baby' G-Class model. Designed as a smaller, more affordable version of the classic G-Class, this vehicle is expected to be released in 2026, based on Mercedes' modular chassis technology.

The current G-Class lineup in the UK includes the G 450 diesel at £136,690, the petrol G500 at £146,095, and the powerful G 63, priced at £184,595. The G 580, with its EQ Technology, slots in between these models, making it a few grand cheaper than the G 63.

To cater to a wider range of customers, Mercedes has also announced updates for several of its models. These include a new 'Refinement Pack' for the E-Class, EQE, and GLC, a new 118kWh battery for the EQS, most PHEVs getting DC charging, and Urban Spec arriving for the C-Class, E-Class, GLC, and GLE.

As the automotive industry continues to evolve, Mercedes-Benz is at the forefront of innovation, offering a diverse range of vehicles to suit various needs and preferences. The new electric G580 and the upcoming 'baby' G-Class are exciting additions to this lineup, promising power, luxury, and advanced technology.
