The iconic Siemens Villa, a historic building located on the picturesque Lehnitzsee in Potsdam, is set to be auctioned next Thursday, September 4. Built in 1910 for the family of Carl Friedrich Siemens, the main house was designed by architect Otto March and served as a residence and representative centre.

After being used as a lung sanatorium from 1952 onwards, the more than 100,000 square meter estate had a significant role during the post-World War II period. The Soviet army used the property as a lazaret. Following reunification in 1990, the Siemens family regained the villa, which they later sold; the property's last known owner before its forced auction was Gerusia Projektgesellschaft mbH.

Haiko Türk, head of practical monument preservation at the State Office for Heritage Preservation, finds the Siemens Villa to be an exceptionally large monument. Despite its historical significance, details about its preservation are not provided.

The estate's history also includes periods of use by a clinic and a school, as the family allowed these institutions to operate on the property. However, a planned renovation of the villa did not come to fruition.

The court spokesman has stated that no information can be provided about the auction. As forced auction procedures are not public until the date of the public auction, no background information about the auction is available. The auction for the Siemens Villa will take place at the district court in Potsdam.

The estimated market value of the Siemens Villa is around 27 million euros. The location of the villa on a peninsula jutting into the Lehnitzsee is particularly noteworthy, adding to its allure. The villa has been empty since it was sold, waiting for a new owner to breathe life into its historic walls.
