Mahin Sarker, a former joint secretary of the National Citizen Party (NCP), was expelled from the party on 18 August due to serious breaches of party discipline. In a press conference held on the Dhaka University campus, Sarker announced his withdrawal from the race for the post of General Secretary (GS) in the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) election.

The press conference, which took place around 6:15 pm in front of Madhu's Canteen, also saw the presence of Abu Baker Mojumdar, the GS candidate from the Bangladesh Ganatantrik Chhatra Sangsad (BGCS) panel. Sarker expressed his support for Mojumdar and urged the students of Dhaka University to elect him as GS.

According to the letter signed by NCP joint secretary (office) Saleh Uddin Sifat, Sarker was suspended from his post and responsibilities in the party until further notice. The suspension was a result of alleged threats and intimidation that forced Sarker to withdraw from the Ducsu polls.

Nahid Islam and Akhtar Hossain, the Convener and Secretary of NCP respectively, were reportedly involved in Sarker's suspension. This is not the first time such attempts have been made to break the panel, as Jamaluddin Muhammad Khalid, the former president of the Islami Chhatra Andolan's Dhaka University unit, stated.

Khalid, a student of the Arabic Department from the 2018-19 academic session, resigned from his position and remains active as an activist on various university issues. Sarker, who left the Chhatra League party before his candidacy for the post of General Secretary of the Dhaka University Central Students' Union, made this decision out of a sense of responsibility towards the mass uprising and the spirit of unity.

Reports suggest that other members of the panel are also being pressured to withdraw from the Ducsu election. The announcement regarding Sarker's expulsion and withdrawal was made today (5 September) at the press conference held in front of Madhur Canteen on the Dhaka University campus.
