Disney's annual D23 showcase, held at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, has unveiled a host of exciting new films, sequels, and a documentary. The three-day event serves as a key platform for Disney to present its creative direction.
One of the headline reveals was Hexed, an animated film from Walt Disney Animation Studios. Directed by Josie Trinidad and Jason Hand, Hexed is set in a world where enchantments rarely behave as expected. The film, due for release in November 2026, is being positioned as Disney's next original success after Moana and Encanto.
Another highly anticipated project announced at the showcase was Avengers: Doomsday. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the film was confirmed to be in production. Actor Paul Rudd made a video message appearance to mark the announcement.
Zootopia 2, a sequel to the 2016 hit, was also announced. Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman return as Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, joined by Ke Huy Quan and Fortune Feimster as new characters. The film is set to release at a future date.
Toy Story 5, set for release on June 19, was announced at the showcase. The film explores how toys cope in a world where electronics dominate children's lives.
Pixar's Coco is set to receive a sequel, with directors Lee Unkrich and Adrian Molina returning. The project is expected to debut in or beyond 2028.
Incredibles 3 was teased, confirming the Parr family's return. No further details were given, causing major online interest.
Gatto, a new Pixar film directed by Enrico Casarosa, is set for release in June 2027. The film has a hand-painted aesthetic and follows a black cat named Nero entangled with the feline underworld.
Disney also announced a new Ice Age film, titled Ice Age: Boiling Point, set for release in February 2027. Despite mixed critical reception to recent Ice Age entries, the franchise remains a family favorite.
Filmmaker Leslie Iwerks will release Disneyland Handcrafted, a documentary about the creation of Walt Disney's first theme park in Anaheim, premiering on Disney+ this winter.
Finally, the showcase revealed that Ice Age: Boiling Point and Gatto will not be the only films featuring our favourite prehistoric animals and anthropomorphic characters. The Ice Age franchise will continue with a new film, featuring Manny, Sid, and Diego facing volcanic dangers and dinosaurs in a perilous setting.
