Majority of Romans Express Concern Over Economic Impact on Their Lifestyle, According to Study

In August 2025, a significant survey was conducted online among urban internet users aged 18 and above, aiming to investigate the economic situation and its impact on the lives of Romanians. The study, which ran from August 14 to August 20, gathered responses from 1,058 participants.

The results revealed a number of concerns for the Romanian population. Rising living costs were the primary worry for 51% of respondents, followed closely by high taxes and duties (20%) and lack of future predictability (18%). These economic pressures have led 30% of Romanians to express worry about their current situation, with a further 38% having cancelled vacations and leisure activities due to financial constraints.

The survey also highlighted the impact on everyday spending, with 49% of Romanians reporting reductions in spending on essentials such as food and clothing to cope with financial pressures. This trend was particularly prevalent among younger generations, as 20% of respondents aged 18-34 cited a lack of job or promotion prospects as their main obstacle.

Looking ahead, 41% of Romanians believe that conditions will not improve over the next 12 months and may continue to deteriorate. However, 45% maintain moderate optimism about the economy's recovery, expecting the process to take more than a year. In spite of the challenges, 23% of respondents show determination to find solutions to their financial difficulties.

The survey did not provide information about which organization conducted the project. Nevertheless, the findings underscore the need for continued support and initiatives to help Romanians navigate the economic challenges they face. With 84% of respondents reporting changes to their daily lives due to economic conditions, it is clear that the effects of the economic situation are far-reaching and profound.
