Man in his mid-30s from Germany perishes in a fall incident in South Tyrol region
In a tragic incident, a 31-year-old climber lost his life during a climbing tour in South Tyrol, Italy. The incident occurred at the Königspitze in the Ortler Alps, a region known for its towering peaks and challenging climbs.
The Ortler, the highest peak in the region, stands tall at 3,905 meters. The Königspitze, neighbour to the Ortler, is where the accident took place.
According to reports from the Italian mountain rescue service, the climber fell to his death around 10:00 AM, while descending from the summit of the Königspitze. The fall occurred at an altitude of approximately 3,500 meters. The climber fell a distance of 200 meters before his death.
His climbing partner, who was also on the tour, was transported down by helicopter and is reported to have suffered a shock. The origin of the deceased climber is currently unknown.
This unfortunate incident comes just a week after another climbing accident in Tyrol, where a woman from Bavaria fell to her death while climbing.
South Tyrol is a popular destination among German climbers, offering a variety of challenging routes and stunning views. The region's beauty, however, comes with its own set of risks, as evidenced by this tragic incident.
