Managing a Novel with Multiple Authors: A Delicate Task
In the world of audiobooks, the International Thriller Writers (ITW) have made a significant impact with their latest release, The Twisted Women's Book Club. Debuting on Audible on April 10, 20XX, this anthology quickly climbed the charts, spending four weeks at number one and remaining in the top ten Audible Original or exclusive title books for months.
Created by a team of renowned thriller writers, including Rick Pullen, The Twisted Women's Book Club is an anthology of interconnected stories that offer a captivating blend of suspense, mystery, and drama. The anthology was published in 2021, with Pullen contributing to its cohesive narrative.
The anthology's main character, psychiatrist Margaret Richter, is established by Pullen in the introduction of the Apple TV show "The After Party", which was released in 2022. This connection between the show and the anthology adds an extra layer of intrigue for fans of both mediums.
The stories in The Twisted Women's Book Club were created around open-ended writer prompts provided by Joe Finder. Finder, who was responsible for corralling big-name thriller writers to participate in the project, aimed to give the authors the freedom to explore their creative ideas while maintaining a sense of unity within the anthology.
The stories are tied together by common characters and themes, and the anthology features contributions from authors such as Karin Slaughter, Lee Child, B.A. Paris, Caroline Kepnes, Oyinkan Braithwaite, Sarah Pekkanen, Naomi Hirahara, Robert Dugoni, Alison Gaylin, Heather Gudenkauf, Shari Lapena, Clare Mackintosh, and Stacy Willingham.
The success of The Twisted Women's Book Club has been unprecedented. In fact, it sold better than F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby initially did. Rick Pullen, one of the creators of the anthology, wrote short chapters for the beginning, middle, and end of the book to establish a stronger connection between the chapters.
Looking forward, Joe Finder plans to publish a new book in 2027, subject to approval from Steve. He has also learned from his latest experience and plans to give a more detailed writer's prompt next time for an even more intriguing anthology.
