Manchester United faces setback as key player sustains injury before Premier League return
Manchester United are set to face a challenging schedule in the coming weeks, with key matches against Liverpool at Anfield next month, a home game against Chelsea, and the Manchester derby all on the horizon. However, the Red Devils are grappling with injuries to Matheus Cunha and Mason Mount, according to manager Ruben Amorim.
Diogo Dalot, who started 31 of United's 38 league games last season and 35 matches the previous campaign, played the full match in Manchester United's 3-2 win over Burnley last Saturday. However, he has withdrawn from international duty with Portugal due to muscle discomfort and is due to return to Manchester for further tests.
During the Burnley game, Cunha was seen clutching his hamstring, and Mount appeared to have suffered a muscle injury. Cunha, however, took to Instagram to reassure fans, stating that he would be back soon after his injury.
To compensate for the absence of Diogo Dalot, the Portuguese national team management has called up left-back Nuno Tavares from Lazio Rome. Tavares, who was included as a replacement but started on the bench in the match against Armenia, is traveling to Armenia to join the national team.
Other players available for Portugal include defenders Gonçalo Inácio and António Silva, forwards Gonçalo Ramos and Pote, and goalkeeper José Sá, among others in the squad selected by coach Roberto Martínez.
United will play host to Chelsea the following week, followed by the Manchester derby next weekend. The team will be hoping for a full squad to face these tough opponents, but the injury concerns remain a cause for worry.
