Manchester United player, shedding tears, admits he declined an offer from Bayern Munich to secure a long-desired reunion transfer

In the 2023 Bundesliga summer transfer period, Antony, the Manchester United winger, made a surprising move to Real Betis in La Liga. This transfer came after a deadline day deal and marked a new chapter in Antony's career.

Before Antony's arrival, notable signings were made in the Bundesliga. Nicolas Jackson was loaned to Bayern Munich from Chelsea, and Bayern Munich agreed a five-year contract with him. Albian Hajdari joined Hoffenheim as a replacement for Koki Machida from FC Lugano.

Antony's impact at Real Betis was immediate. He scored four times as the team reached the final of the UEFA Europa Conference League. However, they unfortunately lost to Chelsea in the final. In his 17 appearances in La Liga for Real Betis, Antony scored five goals.

Despite his impressive performance, Antony's future with Manchester United seemed uncertain. He was an unused substitute for Brazil's World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay, and he hadn't represented the Selecao since March 2023. It was reported that there was an offer of €7 million from Bayern Munich, and Antony claimed there was another serious option on the table for him, which was the Bundesliga champions.

However, Antony chose to stay at Real Betis. He stated he had the team's word, and it was 95% certain he would stay. Antony expressed his happiness in Seville, Spain, stating that he found the city more beautiful than Manchester.

Carlo Ancelotti drafted Antony into the Brazilian national team in June, providing a boost to his international career. Antony has collected 16 senior international caps since 2021.

As Antony prepares to return to action for Real Betis against Levante on September 14, it is clear that his loan move to the Spanish club was a shrewd decision. His goals and skills have been instrumental in the team's performance, and fans eagerly await his return to the pitch.
