Manchester United's women's team evade top opponents in the Women's Champions League qualifying round, as Marc Skinner's squad targets entry into the league phase for the first time.

The Women's Super League (WSL) is set to commence with a thrilling encounter as Manchester United host Leicester City on September 7. But before the Red Devils take to the field, there are a few intriguing stories to unravel.

Firstly, Manchester United have bolstered their squad with the signing of Lisa Naalsund, a midfielder who joined them directly from Brann in 2023. Naalsund's arrival coincides with the departure of Martin Ho, who left Brann to become the manager of Tottenham Hotspur.

Brann, Naalsund's former club, made history last season by qualifying for the Champions League group stage for the first time. However, the coach who led them to this achievement remains unnamed in the available search results. Nevertheless, Brann's current management has continued to deliver impressive results, securing a place in the Europa League group phase in August 2025.

Brann's Champions League journey was not without challenges. They faced formidable opponents such as Real Madrid, Roma, and Paris FC, teams with more experience at this level and boasting more international names. Despite this, Brann managed to take a point against Champions League continental heavyweights Lyon.

Their campaign, however, ended in the quarter-finals at the hands of Barcelona. Manchester United, too, have faced their fair share of setbacks, losing in the third qualifying round of the Champions League two seasons ago against Paris Saint-Germain.

Elisabeth Terland, who scored four goals for United in the second qualifying round, had a two-season stint with Brann before moving to the WSL in 2022. If United overcome Brann over two legs on September 11 and 18, they will qualify for the main Champions League tournament and its 18-team league phase.

This promises to be an exciting start to the WSL season, with both teams eager to make a statement. The clash between Manchester United and Leicester City on September 7 is sure to captivate fans, as both teams aim to start their seasons on a high note.
