Naples' Football Club Cancels Subscription Campaign Amid Stadium Renovations

In an unprecedented move, the Sports and Entertainment Corporation of Naples (SSCN) has announced the cancellation of the subscription campaign for the upcoming football season. This decision comes as a result of the ongoing works at the San Paolo stadium for the Universiade, an international multi-sport event.

The cancellation is likely to have a significant impact on the club's revenue for the upcoming season, as well as on fan engagement and anticipation. The San Paolo stadium, which once attracted large crowds during the era of football legend Diego Maradona, is now considered inconvenient for subscribers, with few advantages.

In the past, the era of Maradona saw a rush for football subscriptions every summer. During the '84-85 season, a staggering 67,398 subscribers were always present when Diego Maradona arrived in Naples. In the year of the first scudetto, the number was 58,129.

However, in recent years, the number of subscribers in Naples has dramatically decreased. This decline, coupled with the ongoing works at the San Paolo stadium, seems to have prompted the SSCN's decision.

The cancellation of the subscription campaign has not been received well by some of the most loyal fans, who have filed lawsuits against the club. Additionally, the curva (a section of the stadium) is in open conflict with club owner De Laurentiis.

La Gazzetta dello Sport, an Italian sports newspaper, has recalled the past era of Maradona and the enthusiasm for football subscriptions during that time. The cost of a subscription pass was found to be more than the sum of individual match tickets, yet fans flocked to secure their spots.

The Universiade renovations are expected to impact the football season for the team based in Naples. Last season, no compensation was provided to subscribers, and it remains unclear if any will be offered this time around.

The cancellation of the subscription campaign is a rare occurrence for the football club, indicating the significant impact of the Universiade renovations. As the renovations continue, fans and the club will eagerly await the return of normal operations at the San Paolo stadium.
