In the world of fashion and film, two esteemed figures have come together to create a unique collaboration. Marc Jacobs, the former creative director of Louis Vuitton (LVMH) from 1997 to 2013, and filmmaker Sofia Coppola, have joined forces for a new project entitled "Marc by Sofia."

During his tenure at Louis Vuitton, Jacobs revitalized the brand by introducing ready-to-wear and injecting a streetwear vibe. Now, he steps into the spotlight, with Coppola offering an intimate look at his creative process in the documentary.

At the Venice Film Festival, both Jacobs and Coppola made a stylish appearance on the red carpet. Jacobs donned a black suit jacket with leather trousers, a black bow in his hair, and interminably electric blue nails. Coppola, on the other hand, wore a black lace dress with sequins on ivory silk, exuding elegance and sophistication.

The documentary, a world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, provides a personal portrait of Jacobs. It includes interviews, archive footage, and behind-the-scenes glimpses of Jacobs' design studio. Coppola appears briefly in the film, documenting the fashion show, its models, and the backstage stress that accompanies such a high-profile event.

For Coppola, the experience was awe-inspiring. She was amazed by the energy, stress, and excitement just before the show, a testament to the passion that drives Jacobs and his team.

It is worth noting that the current owner of the Marc Jacobs brand is Coty Inc., economically controlled by JAB Holdings B.V. and its affiliated companies. This ownership situation follows the sale discussions with LVMH, with JAB maintaining significant indirect ownership through subsidiaries like JAB Beauty B.V.

Sofia Coppola and Marc Jacobs have been friends for around 30 years. Their friendship is evident in the film, as Coppola describes it as neither a marketing piece nor a commercial project, but a small, sincere project.

The film, "Marc by Sofia," follows Jacobs during the preparation of the spring/summer 2024 womenswear show at New York Fashion Week. It was presented one month after discussions at LVMH about selling the Marc Jacobs brand for an estimated one billion dollars.

This collaboration between Jacobs and Coppola promises to offer a fascinating insight into the world of fashion, creativity, and friendship. As the documentary continues its festival run, audiences can look forward to experiencing this unique perspective on one of the industry's most influential figures.
