Market Stalls at City Hall Being Dismantled

Forchheim's town hall square is set for a significant transformation, as demolition work kicks off this week. The aim is to transform the current parking lot into a modern and multifunctional city square, providing a welcoming space for events, gastronomy, play facilities, and seating areas for all generations.

The project, funded by a combination of grants and additional funds, will see the construction of a new "square house" on the town hall square. The new building will contribute to the square's multifunctional nature, offering a gastronomy experience and employment opportunities for people with and without disabilities.

One of the key features of the new city square will be raised beds, seating options, and a fountain area. A toy rental will also be established within the new building, making it a family-friendly space. To ensure the square is accessible to all, an elevator will connect it barrier-free to the underground garage.

The renovation of the historic town hall square is being overseen by the Regensburg-based firm fabi architekten bda PartGmbB. The total cost of the project is approximately 2.45 million euros, with most of the funds coming from federal and state grants. Additional funds will be used for replanning and elevator installation costs.

After the demolition, which is expected to take approximately one week, the next planning steps can be prepared for the construction of the new city square. The actual construction is scheduled for next spring, with the aim of improving the stay quality and microclimate of the area.

The new city square will not be a parking lot anymore, marking a significant change for the community of Forchheim. It is set to become a vibrant and modern space, enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors alike. Stay tuned for updates on the progress of this exciting project.
