Massive Commotion Breaks Out in Manoj Jarange's Antarwali Sarati Village upon Maratha Quota Approval

In the heart of Jalna district, Antarwali Sarati village has become the epicentre of a significant movement - the Maratha reservation movement. Over the past two years, this quiet village has been the stage for a determined campaign led by Manoj Jarange, a 43-year-old activist.

Jarange's family joined him in this struggle, and his firm yet peaceful resolve demanded concrete steps towards implementing Maratha reservation in education and government jobs under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category. The movement gained prominence with an agitation in Antarwali Sarati two years ago, which initially went unnoticed but escalated when local authorities forcibly tried to admit Jarange to a hospital.

The turning point came on August 30 when Manoj Jarange ended a five-day fast, following the Maharashtra government's acceptance of most of his demands. The government's decision was a result of a meeting between a delegation and Jarange, and it marked a significant victory for the Maratha community.

Antarwali Sarati villagers celebrated this historic victory with a special ceremony that included prayers, cracker bursting, lighting lamps, sweet distribution, and traditional 'dhol-tasha' performances. Street processions, waving saffron flags, beating drums, and chanting slogans in support of Jarange were also part of the celebrations.

Jarange's wife expressed her happiness over the government's decision and welcomed her husband's return. His son, Shivraj, shared that the reservation would benefit thousands of young Maratha community members by opening up opportunities in education and government jobs.

The acceptance of Jarange's demands also led to celebrations among his supporters at the protest site in Azad Maidan, south Mumbai. The Maratha quota movement, which has Antarwali Sarati as its spiritual and strategic nerve centre, has achieved a significant milestone.

The current Governor of Maharashtra, C. P. Radhakrishnan, appointed on 27 July 2024, accepted these demands. Notably, Radhakrishnan was recently elected as Vice President of India in September 2025. The decision to grant Kunbi caste certificates to eligible Marathas, making them eligible for reservation benefits available to Other Backward Classes (OBCs), is a step towards ensuring equal opportunities for all in Maharashtra.
