Matosinhos Beach Hosts Yet Another Surf Adapted Event
Adaptive Surfing Event at Matosinhos Beach Promotes Inclusion
Matosinhos Beach is set to host an adaptive surfing event this weekend, aiming to promote inclusion and demonstrate that surfing is accessible to all. The event, which takes place on both Saturday and Sunday, will see participants of various ages and those with motor or cognitive difficulties taking to the waves.
One such participant is Sara Soares, a former surfer who became paraplegic due to an accident. After her recovery, Sara returned to surfing, and her participation in the event is highly anticipated. However, there is currently no information available about her specific involvement in the event.
Another participant confirmed to be attending is Caio Assis, who joined the Portuguese Association of Adaptive Surfing as a means to lose weight. Caio, who has not left the association since joining, will not only be participating in the event but will also be teaching casual surfers how to surf at Matosinhos Beach.
The event organisers have clarified that no registration is required for the adaptive surfing event on Sunday at Matosinhos Beach. Participants are advised to bring their own wetsuits, and volunteers from the Portuguese Association of Adaptive Surfing will be present on both days to assist and ensure the safety of all participants.
The adaptive surfing event is not just about competition but also about fostering a sense of community and breaking down barriers. It is a testament to the power of sport to bring people together and to the adaptability of surfing as a sport for all. The event on Saturday proved that surfing can be enjoyed by anyone, regardless of their abilities.
So, whether you're a seasoned surfer or a complete beginner, come down to Matosinhos Beach this weekend to witness the adaptive surfing event and be inspired by the stories of courage, determination, and resilience of the participants.
