McLaren funds venture with VPC at Baltimore's Tradepoint Atlantic port facility
In an exciting development for the automotive industry, luxury car manufacturer McLaren has announced plans to establish a new vehicle processing centre (VPC) at the Sparrow's Point facility in Baltimore, Maryland. The centre is set to open in Q4, 2026, marking a significant expansion of McLaren's operations in the Americas.
The VPC is anticipated to create job opportunities for highly skilled automotive technicians, paint specialists, logistics, and management personnel. McLaren, The Americas, will employ its own team to run operations at the centre, ensuring a seamless and efficient process.
McLaren's current operations, which include distribution through McCollister's Transport, Inter-City Transport for the US, and Harman Group for Canada, will be relocated from the Dundalk Marine Terminal to the new VPC in Baltimore. This strategic move will make Baltimore McLaren's exclusive port of entry for all cars coming to the US and Canada.
The VPC will not only facilitate the transportation of vehicles but also offer a wide range of premium vehicle accessories and services. Local accessory packs will be installed at the VPC, and a full suite of services will be available, with the full selection of options announced for each model year once the centre is operational.
One of the key advantages of the VPC is the ability to perform paint protection film installation directly on site, ensuring the highest quality and precision in the application. Moreover, the VPC will allow for full checking and signing off of every car, ensuring that each vehicle meets McLaren's stringent quality standards before it reaches its final destination.
McLaren has invested over $100m in high-tech sales and servicing facilities, with $20m being invested in its largest sales and service point in Orlando, Florida. This investment in the Baltimore VPC is an additional $10.5m, demonstrating McLaren's commitment to its operations in the Americas.
Nicolas Brown, President of McLaren, The Americas, is responsible for overseeing McLaren's operations and brand presence in the Americas region. Under his leadership, McLaren has been actively involved in initiatives such as being the official vehicle of the 2026 Producers Guild Awards and promoting McLaren supercars like the Artura hybrid.
With the US being McLaren's biggest export market, the company expects to deliver approximately the same volume of cars in 2025 as it did in 2024, which is approximately 1,500 cars. The establishment of the VPC in Baltimore is expected to further boost these numbers, solidifying McLaren's position in the American market.
The VPC is being developed in partnership with Tradepoint Atlantic, further strengthening the relationship between McLaren and the Sparrow's Point facility. This partnership is set to bring a new era of luxury and innovation to the automotive industry in Baltimore and beyond.
