Media and justice under assault by Musk following murder of a Ukrainian woman
In Charlotte, North Carolina, on August 22, 2025, a tragic incident unfolded that has left the community in shock. Iryna Zarutska, a 23-year-old Ukrainian woman, was brutally murdered.
The attack occurred on a light rail train, where Iryna was sitting engrossed in her phone on a blue seat. Decarlos Brown Jr., a 34-year-old African American with a criminal record, is the suspected murderer.
Brown, who has convictions for theft, armed robbery, and threats, and served a five-year prison sentence, pulled out a switchblade and lunged at Iryna without any prior interaction. The attack was unprovoked, leading to her immediate death at the scene.
The video recording of the incident captures the moment of the attack, but freezes at that point. Resuming afterward, the video shows Brown staggering through the train, leaving blood splatters behind.
Brown discarded his bloodstained sweater after the attack and has since been under investigation for misuse of the emergency call system. In January, he called the police and claimed to have been given something to gain control over him.
The attack remains a mystery, with the reason for Brown's actions remaining unclear. The incident has not been reported by major news agencies such as AP, The New York Times, CNN, or BBC.
A fundraising campaign for Iryna's aunt Valeria has been set up on the "gofundme" platform. The money raised is intended to help cover the costs that have arisen as a result of this tragic event.
