Meghnad Saha Institute of Technology Faces Questions Over Placement Process
The placement process at Meghnad Saha Institute of Technology (MSIT) has come under scrutiny, with students raising concerns about its fairness and transparency.
The college aims to create an inclusive environment during the placement process for all students. However, some students feel that the process may not be providing equal opportunities to everyone.
Candidates for placements fill out Google forms, sometimes requiring a resume submission. To be shortlisted for MSIT's Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) programme, students must have 60% marks and no active backlogs.
However, there are allegations of perceived bias in the shortlisting process. Some students claim that candidates who are close to certain faculty members in the Training and Placement Cell (TPC) or those who speak Bengali may be receiving preference. This has led to frustration among non-Bengali students who feel excluded or overlooked.
Lack of transparency in the placement process is another issue. Students who meet the eligibility criteria but are denied opportunities have expressed concern about the lack of communication regarding their status. Reasons for denying opportunities to eligible students are never explained in the placement process at MSIT.
The college has been encouraged to review its placement process to address any perceived bias or exclusion of certain students. It is also urged to ensure that every candidate who meets the company's eligibility criteria has a chance to participate in the placement process.
At the moment, there is no specific information about a student organisation or association at MSIT that is trying to improve transparency in the campus placement selection process. The college should strive to make the placement process fair and transparent for all students, and to communicate clearly with students about their eligibility status and reasons for denial if necessary.
This issue highlights the importance of ensuring fairness and transparency in the placement process at educational institutions. By doing so, colleges can help to create a more inclusive and equitable environment for all students.
